Veterinary Surgeon – Small Animal Specialist (Essex)

Requirements to Practice in the UK: To join, you’ll need to be qualified to practice as a Veterinary Surgeon in the UK. This includes holding a recognised veterinary degree, registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), and the right to work in the UK.
Clinical Duties/Daily Expectations
- Conduct Physical Examinations
- Diagnose Medical Conditions
- Develop Treatment Plans
- Perform Surgeries
- Administer Vaccinations
- Handle Emergency Cases: Respond to urgent cases, such as trauma, poisonings, or other life-threatening conditions, and provide immediate medical care.
- Conduct Follow-Up Consultations:
- Provide End-of-Life Care: Offer compassionate euthanasia services when appropriate, supporting both the patient and their owner.
- Interpret Diagnostic Tests: Review and interpret lab results, imaging, and other diagnostic findings to inform treatment decisions.
- Prescribe Medications: Prescribe and explain proper usage and potential side effects of medications to pet owners.
- Client Communication & Education: Discuss diagnoses, treatments, and preventive care with pet owners, providing guidance on managing their pets’ health at home.
- Supervise Veterinary Nurse: Delegate tasks to support staff and oversee their work to ensure high standards of patient care.
- Maintain Medical Records: Document all treatments, surgical procedures, diagnoses, and client communications accurately for future reference.
- Perform Pain Management: Evaluate and manage pain for both surgical and chronic conditions to improve patient comfort.
- Oversee anaesthesia during surgeries and procedures, ensuring patient safety.
- Promote Preventive Health: Advise on preventive measures, such as nutrition, weight management, and flea/tick control.
- Continuing Education & CPD: Engage in ongoing professional development activities to stay updated with the latest veterinary practices and technologies.
