Global Veterinary Careers is partnering with a reputable, independent small animal practice in SW London to find a dedicated and experienced Practice Manager. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, has strong leadership qualities, and wants to be an integral part of a close-knit team. The current Practice Manager will be relocating in early 2025, leaving a fantastic opportunity for someone to take the helm and continue the progress already in place.

About the Practice and Team:

The practice is a well-established independent small animal clinic, home to a friendly and professional team comprising three vets, two RVNs, one SQP, and three veterinary care assistants. This fully equipped practice is dedicated to high-quality care, with in-house MiLab blood machines, IV fluid pumps, digital and dental radiography, and ultrasound. The team operates with a collaborative approach, maintaining open communication, regular meetings, and strong inter-role support to ensure everyone knows their responsibilities yet assists each other as needed.

The area also provides excellent accessibility to both central London and surrounding natural attractions.

Duties of the Role:

The Practice Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting the practice’s daily operations, including:

  • Liaising with Industry Partners: Maintain regular contact with company representatives and arrange visits.
  • Team and Shift Management: Oversee the rota for nurses and vets, including a rotating two-week shift pattern.
  • Staff Meetings and 1-to-1s: Organize monthly team meetings and individual check-ins to support team growth and communication.
  • Stock Control and Social Media: Manage stock and contribute to the practice’s social media presence.
  • Client Account Management: Manage client accounts, billing, and customer service at reception.
  • Health and Safety: Oversee health and safety protocols and staff education.
  • Additional Veterinary Support: Provide nursing and other support roles if RVN qualified.

Benefits:

  • Annual Salary:
    • £35,000 - £40,000 (without accommodation)
    • £30,000 - £35,000 (with accommodation)
  • Accommodation Option: Large space within the practice with bedroom, lounge, bathroom, and kitchen, including utilities and council tax paid.
  • Work-Life Balance: Every second Monday off; flexible schedule between opening and closing shifts (8:30 am-6:00 pm), with a rotating shift pattern (45 hours one week, 35 the next).
  • On-Call Option: Available if utilizing accommodation; requires alternate weeks for Monday-Friday in-patient checks at 8 pm and 10 pm.
  • Holidays: 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro-rata).
  • CPD Allowance: Continued professional development supported by the practice.
  • Additional Optional Shifts: Opportunity to join the weekend rota (one Saturday a month, 9 am-1:30 pm) for extra pay or time in lieu.

To Be Considered:

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Previous experience in veterinary practice management
  • UK RVN qualification (a bonus, but not required)
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities
  • Customer service experience and commitment to excellent client care
  • Flexibility to support in reception or clinical areas if needed

Additional Qualifications (Desirable but Not Essential):

  • Certified Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS)
  • Emergency First Aid appointed person
  • Current clinical coach experience
  • Familiarity with pet travel requirements
